We are happy to announce that on March 21st 2017 Astronika delivered the flight model of the Hammering Mechanism (HP3 instrument for NASA InSight Mission) to DLR.
Integration of the flight model (same as all previous models) was performed under the supervision of Quality Assurance Engineers from Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Hammering Mechanism is a part of HP3 mole which will penetrate the Martian subsurface up to 5m depth to investigate thermal properties of the soil.
Until now Astronika delivered a total of 7 fully functional models of Hammering Mechanisms, each of them has a lifetime of at least 20,000 strokes. The launch of InSight is planned for 5th May 2018 with landing on Mars in November 2018.
